Found another Canadian pop band worth checking out (brings the total up to three, I think). Anyway, I read about these guys a while back in Rolling Stone, and meant to check them out, but I could never remember to. Enter Steve Jones on Indie 103.1. “The Sire of Wilshire” spun a song by them on his show the other day (it’s so great to be able to say that a DJ turned me onto this-just like radio used to be!), and it was catchy as a cold in December. Their sound is inspired by equal parts Beatles, T Rex, David Bowie, and Todd Rundgren. At the same time, it is forged with the same sensibilities that make the power pop bands of the last 15 years so wonderful (in their case, bits reminiscient of The Posies and fellow Canadians Sloan going on here). Dig ‘em today!

This is spooky! You just recently wrote an article on your site about a subject that I was thinking about writing about. Now you write about The New Pornographers here… just as I was thinking about writing about them.
Like you, I had heard about these guys a long time ago and kept forgetting to check them out. So the other day, while I was going through my Amazon wishlist and placing a big order, I was reminded of them. So I just picked up all three albums yesterday. Isn’t that crazy?
I’ll comment more later once I give them a listen.

You guys should really listen to the stuff I pass along sometimes, I swear the first two albums were there for your perusal, like a year ago…but I digress

Dan, I do! I know you told me about these guys, but I don’t recall hearing anything and I didn’t already have any tracks by them.

I’m late to the “I’m already into them” thread, but I tell you, 2 weeks ago, I snagged a few trcks from these fellows. Pretty good stuff. I also caught that article in Rolling Stone.
This all reminds me of a shirt that my buddy has. It says “Everything you like… I liked five years ago”

Eh, maybe it was on another disc I made for some other folk…sorry bout that.
I found another great band by four guys from the Bay area, kinda poppy, with the album cover making them look like hippies standing next to some girl covered in swirls of goo, I’ll have to look up the name.
